Digital Daffodil Day

Every year the Irish Cancer Society organises Daffodil Day, their biggest annual fundraising event. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Daffodil Day 2020 had to be cancelled. The donations raised through Daffodil Day fund crucial support for cancer patients, including night nurses, who provide end of life care in patients’ homes. These nurses are a beacon of comfort and an essential service for affected families. In 2019, over 1,800 patients throughout Ireland used the Night Nursing service, with Irish Cancer Society providing 7,200 nights of care. Without the Daffodil Day donations, the Night Nursing service was at risk.

We knew we had to do something to help. So we created Digital Daffodil Day. We partnered with Twitter promoting #DigitalDaffodilDay for 24 hours. We secured  widespread media coverage of the day across TV, radio & digital. Our online fundraiser became a social movement capturing the same spirit of giving, through homepage takeovers, GIFs, social content, and a message from the families of patients recorded on their phones during lockdown. This entire digital campaign was turned around in five days.

The campaign was picked up by RTE, Virgin Media, Today Fm, Irish Independent and the Irish Times. Best of all donations flooded in throughout the day.
